What is the format?
Eighteen teams compete across two championships running side by side. Men’s: 12 teams in two pools of six; each team plays every other team in its pool once, and the top four in each pool go through to the quarter-finals. Women’s: six teams in a single pool; each team plays every other team once, and the top four go through to the semi-finals. The pool stage is followed by knockout rounds and medal matches.
